SyntheSys will be attending the International Data Links Symposium (IDLS) 2017 in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 30 October to 2 November.

Consultant Kevin Farquhar and Training Manager Paul Czajkowski (Ski) will be running a MIDS Link 16 & Link 22 Network Design Workshop Training Day on 30 October.

They will also be giving some interesting and apt presentations throughout the event including ‘TDLs in Coalition - Truly one team, one fight?’, ‘Multi-TDL Planning’ and ‘Network Management’.

One of the key advantages of IDLS is the spontaneous, ad hoc networking that takes place among the delegates.  Kevin said: “Ski and I are really looking forward to attending IDLS.  It will be the perfect opportunity to meet new and established contacts and customers.”

Great to see you at IDLS 2016

The 2016 annual International Data Link Symposium (IDLS) proved to be a valuable, interesting and enjoyable event at which we had the opportunity to meet with colleagues and customers throughout the Tactical Data Link (TDL) Community.

In keeping with our overall business objective to create an integrated TDL Community, we were pleased to see so many delegates participate in our ‘Follow the Link’ competition.  Congratulations go to Roberto Silva from Ultra Electronics and Simon Verduijn from the Royal Netherlands Navy who each won a Kindle Fire.

Our training day for this year’s show took an interactive approach where we provided a Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP) training course.  Our trainers, Paul Czajkowski (Ski) and Tony Castle, delivered the ‘JREAP - How does it work and what does it provide the user?’ training course, which delivered a definition of JREAP along with how JREAP users can interact with Link 16 networks, together with advantages and capabilities.  The training was split into two parts which enabled attendees to apply the learnt theory in a simulated training environment using the Daronmont Data Link Training Suite (DLTS) and the Engility Joint Range Extension (JRE) software.

Our educational contribution did not end there.  For delegates particularly interested in Variable Message Format (VMF), Tony Castle delivered a presentation on day one giving an introduction to this subject covering VMF capabilities, message and header format and users.

On day two, Ski delivered a 45 minute lesson aimed at all international delegates who sought an interesting introduction to Link 22.  The lesson referenced NATO standards and documents, and also examined the main features of Link 22, Operational Net Cycle Structure and Assignment Slots.  Ski also provided a comparison of Link 22 versus other Links such as Link 11 and Link 16.

Tony Castle rounded up our educational presentations with a condensed version of the JREAP training day, which was aimed at delegates who were interested in high level information relating to JREAP.  Tony examined many elements including; the need for JREAP, common time references, JREAP media types and management messages.

UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) Abbey Wood Hosts SyntheSys Tactical Data Links (TDL) Training Course

The UK MoD Abbey Wood site near Bristol has recently hosted a one day ‘Introduction to TDLs’ training course.  The training provided a high level overview of Links 1, 11, 16 & 22 with additional insight into both Variable Message Format (VMF) and Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP).  Furthermore, there was instruction and discussion on enhancements to current systems along with future programmes being developed.  As with all of our training courses, each attendee received a hard copy of the relevant training manual, in this case our extensive – ‘Introduction to TDLs’ manual.

As Berlin marks the 25^th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall on 9^th November 1989, we reflect on our attendance at the International Data Link Symposium (IDLS) 2014.

In keeping with our overall business objective to create an integrated Tactical Data Link (TDL) Community, we were pleased to see so many delegates participate in our ‘Follow the Link’ activity. Congratulations to Mads Pedersen and Andreas Saatze who were each the lucky winners of a Kindle Fire HD6.

Our training day for this year’s show took an interactive approach and was based primarily on our Data Link Manager/Interface Control Officer (DLM/ICO) training course.  The DLM/ICO course is designed to inform individuals with little or no knowledge of TDLs and associated responsibilities to a stage where they can plan, design and manage Data Link Networks.  Many thanks to those who attended.

The Data Link Training Suite (DLTS) was in full force at the event and we are eagerly anticipating further discussions about this powerful application and how it will shape the future of TDL Training.

Our educational contribution did not end there.  Our Advanced Link 16 presentation, as part of the educational stream, gave delegates an understanding about Joint Tactical Information Distribution System/Multifunctional Information Distribution System (JTIDS/MIDS) Link 16.  The presentation focused on time slot structure and how to calculate a specific Network Participation Group (NPG) capacity within Network Designs which stimulated some excellent discussion points.

For delegates particularly interested in Variable Message Format (VMF), we delivered a presentation on Day 2 giving an introduction to this subject.

We extend special thanks to Diginext with whom we partnered to deliver our Open Test Lab.  The Test Lab enabled us to establish a common interface in order to demonstrate requirements engineering, development engineering, testing, training, analysis and results recording.  These functions are then able to support individual programmes and the system-of-systems for interoperability through-life.

Here at SyntheSys, we look forward to the annual IDL Symposium and this year’s event did not disappoint.  It was a great opportunity to talk to our customers and friends, old and new and as ever, we had an enjoyable time in Berlin.

SyntheSys’ Tony Castle joins the Technical Committee of the International Data Link Society

We are delighted to announce that Tony Castle, SyntheSys’ Training Manager,  has been welcomed onto the Technical Committee of the International Data Link Society (IDLSoc) with immediate effect.

The IDLSoc represents the international data link population and aims to fuse a global network of professionals into one, unified professional community.  The society has been set up to represent the data links community through individual, government and corporate memberships and provides a platform for discussion and exchange of technological and professional ideas and interests.

Tony’s long standing career in the Tactical Data Link community makes him well placed to offer invaluable insight to the technical committee and we look forward to making a positive contribution in the very near future.

Tony Castle commented that he is ''very pleased to be joining the IDLS Technical Committee and look forward to the challenge of working alongside other TDL specialists to provide the best possible service to IDLS and the Data Link community.'' 

SyntheSys and Engility deliver JREAP Training at IDLS, Norfolk, VA

Paul Czajkowski, SyntheSys and Rob Wilemon, Engility delivered a Joint Range Extension (JRE) Application Protocol (AP) training course to 40 international delegates from 14 different countries. The training focussed on the operational use of different JRE protocols utilising the Engility JRE system.

Firstly, attendees were provided an overview into the structure and subsequent use of JREAP messages. Secondly, delegates were able to observe how different JREAP networks are created and actively managed through continuous practical demonstrations.

SyntheSys and Engility would like to thank all of the delegates who participated for making the training event a success.

VECTOR Service launched

SyntheSys is pleased to announce its VECTOR (Validation, Evaluation and Compliance Testing Of Requirements) service.

Based on previous experience gained from our support to the UK Multi-Link Test Facility (MLTF), VECTOR has been developed and fielded to support and sustain cost-effective national/international tactical communications and network-enabled capability testing in both synthetic and live environments. Whilst VECTOR will focus on requirements test and evaluation, it will also facilitate the preparation of test scripts and the comprehensive analysis of results from test scenarios. It is not just confined to the military domain; we fully intend to utilise VECTOR in support of civil and commercial customers with a need for requirements testing, validation and verification. VECTOR will be integrated with our SPIRIT capability to manage nations’ requirements for interoperability testing and assurance. We will be demonstrating VECTOR’s attributes and services at this year’s International Data Link Symposiumin October at Norfolk, Virginia.

Well, what a great and busy week at IDLS 2012!

On behalf of the SyntheSys IDL 2012 team I would like to thank our good friends and colleagues at IDLS 2012 in Athens who attended the IDLS training day and those who came to visit and discuss SPIRIT and our other products and services at our stand. 

The feedback from the demonstrations and discussions on our interoperability assurance and management tool, SPIRIT, were very positive. If you didn’t get to see a demonstration and would like to, I will be happy to arrange one at a time and venue to suit you.

The general response from our training day event prior to the IDLS was very positive and from this we can consider it a success. Sam Southwell our course instructor for the training day would like to thank those who participated in making it a success.

We would also like to congratulate Torbjörn Ohlsson, Remi Latajka, Quint De Groot, Anastasios Lliopoulos and Bram Remmelzwaal who were the winners of our daily whisky draw.
