It’s a Wrap – Great to See You at the 25th NATO Tactical Data Link Symposium (NTDLS)

SyntheSys Defence recently participated in the 25th NATO Tactical Data Link Symposium, which took place in Calpe, Spain.  The event was well supported by NATO and partner nations, industry, international companies and academia, with circa 150 operators, technicians, trainers and TDL experts representing 21 countries.

The event, coordinated by the Data Link Support Staff (DLSS) as part of NATO Headquarters Consultation, Command and Control Staff (NHQC3S), convened a comprehensive agenda which allowed multi-way discussion and engagement opportunities between all attendees.  An expansive range of topics were addressed by detailed presentations, discussions and workshops, all of which built around the conceptual, strategic, technical and operational aspects of TDL technologies and national requirements.

Held over four days, the symposium sought to promote a better understanding and unclassified insight into some of the latest advancements in information exchange technologies.  To touch upon but a brief overview of an extensive programme, briefings addressed technical applications of a multitude of TDLs’ training strategies; strategic updates and directives; TDL interoperability evaluation, along with network architecture and designs.

Overall, the event allowed SyntheSys Defence to strengthen existing relationships, participate in future development scoping workshops and build new partnerships through a variety of initiatives.  If you would like to know more please contact us via: info@synthesys.co.uk

Kate Chandler takes a Deep Dive into Cross-Domain Safety Assurance for Automated Transport Systems

SyntheSys attended the Institute of Civil Engineers in London for the release of the Policy Report Launch of Cross-Domain Safety Assurance for Automated Transport Systems. Led by the University of Warwick, the Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), High Value Manufacturing Catapult, UK Research and Innovation, and more than 30 stakeholders contributed to the year-long project and working party discussions. Launched in March 2022 the project explored a comprehensive approach to cross-domain integration incorporating Air, Maritime and Land to identify common synergies, safety management protocols and systems architecture requirements necessary to achieve the economic potential of the global automated transport ecosystem.

The report presented a number of recommendations with Key Requirements, such as the establishment of associated safety levels, the development of a common safety assurance framework, and the creation of a qualification process for Virtual Test Environments, in order to enable trust in evidence from virtual testing.

Keynote addresses were delivered by the Chair of the Commons Select Science and Technology Committee, the Right Honourable Doctor Greg Clark MP, the Chair of the Transport Select Committee,  Iain Stewart MP and the Shadow Secretary of State for Transport of the United Kingdom, Louise Haigh MP.

Several presentations from international and local cross domain speakers preceded panel discussions on the future challenges facing the implementation of the report findings.  The event concluded with an insight into next steps by the Head of Verification & Validation (V&V) of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) at WMG, Professor Siddartha Khastgir.  With closing remarks by the Dean of WMG, Professor, Robin Clark.

Overall a great insight which clearly demonstrates the importance of system’s architecture and associated frameworks.

Pause4Thought – INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional Exam Preparation with SyntheSys Technologies

Certification within any industry sector is a sure-fire way to accelerate one’s career, INCOSE Certification adds considerable value to you as a systems engineer because the accreditation formally recognises your systems engineering technical capability.  It can be used as part of the hiring and promotion process and it encourages employee participation in continuing education.  It is also a useful tool for promoting professional competence and provides an independent internal and external assessment.

As the INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification continues to gain traction globally as the defacto, ‘gold standard’ in systems engineering excellence, we are seeing more members of the community approaching us for support in preparing for the examination.

In response, we are inviting members of the community to join us for a short session on 18th April 2023 at 14:00 which will share some best practice, hints and tips for preparing to sit the INCOSE exam at Associate or Certified level.

Our INCOSE certified trainer, Mark Williamson, will be on-hand to give a high-level view of how the exam is structured and what candidates should consider when embarking on their preparation journey.

This session will also give candidates some information on the benefits of attending a formal preparation course.

Pause4Thought – An Introduction to Systems Engineering with SyntheSys Technologies

As the pace of change increases, development processes have adapted to a world where requirements can change at any stage of the life cycle, with a strong focus on the streamlined development of individual subsystems and iterative testing.  But this can give leaders a hard time keeping focus on the big picture.
Systems engineering methods strongly emphasise an ability to model the whole system, alongside a scientific methodology of requirements management, so its approach has to retain the clarity of project definition and process associated with a sequential life cycle model, while embracing the modern engineering reality of recursion, iteration, adaptability and change.

Join SyntheSys Technologies for a short, free introductory session on 18th April 2023 at 10am to explore why Systems Engineering is widely regarded as a key catalyst for engineering innovation across high-growth manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Our INCOSE certified trainer, Mark Williamson, will be delivering a high-level snapshot overview of the principles and practices of Systems Engineering.  This session will provide some baseline knowledge for those looking to build formal skills in the area and will also give those looking to attend a SyntheSys Technologies course a flavour of our training approach.
