Training Success, Frederikshavn – Data Link Manager / Interface Control Officer Course

 

Having enjoyed a much needed Christmas holiday break, we were right back on the road in early January and are happy to announce the successful completion of our Data Link Manager / Interface Control Officer (DLM/ICO) course, held at Frederikshavn Naval Base in Denmark from 10-28 January.

 As the DLM/ICO is responsible for the entire Tactical Data Link (TDL) interface to include both planning and execution functions, it is critical the training scope is vast and comprehensive.  Over the course of three weeks North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) members from Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway were provided with an in depth understanding of how to plan, build, interact and subsequently manage Multi TDL architectures. 

The course focused on providing students with a series of challenging learning outcomes using practical exercises, simulation, and real-world operational software.  This interactive process promotes a cooperative learning environment, allowing each student to progress with confidence and a developed knowledge of each TDL. Through the development of this type of knowledge TDL planners and operators are better equipped to identify and execute commander’s information exchange requirements, both in training and operational environments.

 Our next stop is Nieuw Milligen, Netherlands, where we are again delivering our DLM/ICO course to a group of personnel representing various organisations within the Dutch Armed Forces.

2022 Tactical Data Link Training Dates Confirmed

 

SyntheSys Defence is pleased to announce the confirmed training dates for 2022 Tactical Data Link (TDL) Training.

SyntheSys Defence is proud to offer a range of TDL training, including Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP), Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) Link 16, Link 11, Link 22, Network Design and Data Link Manager/Interface Control Officer (DLM/ICO) courses. These courses are designed to enhance the understanding of various TDL systems, operations, and responsibilities while providing a solution to the formal training gap that exists across both the Joint and Allied enterprise. Our data link training courses are all created in accordance with ATDLP-5.55 North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) training standards.

Highlights of some of the courses include:

The DLM/ICO course is our flagship, 15-day course which is designed to provide working knowledge to personnel whose role is to plan, build, manage, interact, develop and engage in Multi TDL Architectures and operations.  The course provides students with a fundamental understanding of various TDLs, then, using state of the art simulation tools, practically applies this knowledge to real world scenarios.

The JREAP course covers both the Joint Range Extension (JRE) Processor Hardware and the Application Protocol (AP) as defined in MIL-STD-3011.  The course explains the benefits of the JREAP and provides the technical detail of how the system works.

The Introduction to Link 22 course, gives students a sound theoretical knowledge of all aspects of Link 22 operations.  The areas covered by the course include system architecture, network structures and an in-depth look at the message catalogue and the capabilities provided by those messages.  Detailed message transactions can be demonstrated using the TACTX simulator.

The MIDS Link 16 Network Design and Management course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of MIDS Link 16 Network Design and Management.  Emphasis is placed on practical training, with students utilising both simulation and operational software applications. Students who wish to learn the more complex and advanced areas of MIDS Network Design (ND) are encouraged to undertake our 8-day Advanced Network Design training course.

Another successful Data Link Manager / Interface Control Officer (DLM/ICO) Course to round up a productive 2018!

SyntheSys recently delivered the final DLM/ICO course of 2018.  The course took place at the Air Operations Control Station Nieuw Milligen (AOCS NM), Netherlands, and was hosted by the Dutch National Data Link Management Cell (NDMC).  The course included students from the Dutch Air Force, Army and Navy, as well as the Czech Data Link Management Centre and NATO E-3A component, plus we were delighted to have our first students from the German Tactical Data Link Management Centre (TDLMC) and the French Army.

Royal Danish Navy to Host SyntheSys Data Link Manager (DLM) /Interface Control Officer (ICO) Training Course in November 2017

We are delighted to announce that the Royal Danish Navy is to host our Data Link Manager (DLM)/Interface Control Officer (ICO) Course.

The course will be held from Monday 6 to Friday 24 November 2017 at Naval Warfare Centre, Naval Base in Frederikshavn.  The three-week course is focused on providing students with an in-depth understanding of Multi-TDL architectures using practical exercises, theoretical lessons, simulation and real world operational software.

Data Link Manager/Interface Control Officer Training in Poland

CAOC Uedem Again Host SyntheSys Data Link Manager (DLM) /Interface Control Officer (ICO) Training Course in 2016

We are delighted to announce that for the third consecutive year, the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Uedem, Germany is to host our Data Link Manager (DLM)/Interface Control Officer (ICO) Course.  The course continues to be extremely successful with attendees providing consistently high feedback.

The course will be held from Monday 6 June through to Friday 24 June.  The three week course, for 12 students with two instructors in support, is designed to provide personnel with an in depth understanding of how to plan, build, interact and subsequently manage Multi TDL architectures.  The course is focused on providing students with a series of challenging learning outcomes through the use of practical exercises, simulation and real world operational software.  This interactive process promotes a cooperative learning environment allowing each student to progress with confidence and a developed knowledge of each TDL.

The CAOC Uedem course will closely follow our first DLM/ICO Course of 2016, which is being hosted by the Danish JDLOC.  With attendees from Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Latvia and the Czech Republic, we anticipate that the training will further continue to forge a cohesive path of cross border Multi-TDL cooperation and understanding.

SyntheSys Successfully Delivers Data Link Manager (DLM)/ Interface Control Office (ICO) Training as Hosted by the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC)

Once again, we are delighted to announce that a group of personnel have successfully completed our Data Link Manager/Interface Control Officer training course. The course was hosted by the Combined Air Operations Centre Uedem in Germany, with a total of 14 personnel from Australia, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Italy, Lithuania, UK and the US.  This diverse range of students enhanced and supported an enjoyable learning environment.

Students were initially provided instruction on Link 1, 11, 11B, 16, 22, VMF and JREAP before progressing to a series of complex operationally focused Multi-TDL planning exercises.  Utilising the Daronmont Data Link Training Suite simulation software, students were able to fully interact with the Multi-TDL architectures they had created.  Additionally, the use of the Engility JRE operational software and the newly introduced Multi-TDL Planning Tool, TacPlan, guided the students in both understanding the roles and responsibilities of a DLM/ICO and overcoming the operational challenges they could encounter.

Rick Ojeda from NATO Airbase Geilenkirchen stated “This is my second course with SyntheSys and it did not disappoint.  The combination of theory and hands-on was perfect for verifying understanding’’.

Multi National Personnel Complete SyntheSys Data Link Manager (DLM)/Interface Control Officer (ICO) Training Course

We are pleased to announce that personnel from the Norwegian TDL Squadron, Swedish and Finnish JDLOC and Royal Netherlands Air Force have successfully completed our three week DLM/ICO Training Course.

The course was hosted by the Norwegian TDL Squadron at Jørstadmoen camp in the picturesque area of Lillehammer.  Attendees were provided with in depth instruction on Link 1, 11, 16, 22, Variable Message Format and Joint Range Extension Application Protocols.  Using their acquired knowledge and working in small groups, they then continued with a series of challenging Multi TDL Planning exercises, where they had to define progressively more complex TDL architectures and subsequently coordinate the correct allocation of TDL parameters.  Multi National operations and exercises are increasingly demanding more from DLM/ICO and Data Link Management Cell personnel.  Accordingly, our practical modules are designed to thoroughly test, educate and ultimately develop these personnel for the challenges that lie ahead.

Students then briefed their plan before testing and ultimately validating their architecture through the use of simulation and real world operational software.  This interactive learning environment enabled all students to fully visualise their operational plan, identifying elements such as the potential for data looping or the misallocation of critical TDL duties and their impact.  This allowed each individual to manage their architecture as a DLM/ICO would, helping to build confidence, and to apply their newly gained skills and theory in an enjoyable and cooperative learning atmosphere.

SyntheSys would like to thank all those who attended, especially the Norwegian TDL Squadron for hosting this event.  Our next course will be held at CAOC Uedem in June, once again continuing to attract more interest than there are places available.

CAOC Uedem to Host SyntheSys Data Link Manager (DLM) /Interface Control Officer (ICO) Training Course in June 2015

We are delighted to announce that the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Uedem, Germany is to host its second Data Link Manager (DLM)/Interface Control Officer (ICO) Course.  The course has proved to be extremely successful with attendees providing consistently high feedback.

The course will be held from Monday 1 June through to Friday 19 June.  The three week course, for 12 students and two instructors in support, is designed to provide personnel with an in depth understanding of how to plan, build, interact and subsequently manage Multi TDL architectures.  The course is focussed on providing students with a series of challenging learning outcomes through the use of practical exercises, simulation and real world operational software.  This interactive process promotes a cooperative learning environment allowing each student to progress with confidence and a developed knowledge of each TDL.

The CAOC Uedem course will closely follow our first DLM/ICO Course of 2015, which is being hosted by the Norwegian TDL Squadron. With attendees from Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Netherlands, we anticipate that the course will continue to forge a cohesive path of cross border Multi TDL cooperation and understanding.

NATO Personnel Successfully Complete Data Link Manager (DLM) /Interface Control Officer (ICO) Training Course

SyntheSys is delighted to announce that personnel from the Italian Data Link Management Cell (DLMC), NATO Deployable Air Command and Control Centre (DACCC), Poggio Renatico (ITALY), Norwegian Logistics Organisation and Netherlands National DLMC have successfully completed our three week Data Link Manager/Interface Control Officer (DLM/ICO) Training Course.

Students firstly undertook theory lessons combined with the use of simulation and real world operational software, focusing on Link 1, 11, 16, 22, VMF and JREAP.  They then progressed to several challenging planning exercises based upon large scale multinational operations where the students had to identify, and subsequently utilise, a variety of Multi Tactical Data Link (TDL) Information Exchange Requirements (IERs).

Using the specific Joint Tactical Information Distribution System/Multifunctional Information Distribution System Information Exchange Requirements (JTIDS/MIDS IERs) a Link 16 Network Design Document (NDD) set was prepared for the students.  Through a guided session they were shown how to interpret and fully understand all parts of an NDD with emphasis on the Connectivity Matrix.

Finally, using their planning scenarios, operational signals and the combination of simulation, they created numerous Multi TDL architectures to confirm that their plan would work correctly.  This check of understanding using simulation provided an ideal environment for all students to achieve their individual learning outcomes.

NATO Personnel Complete SyntheSys Data Link Manager (DLM) / Interface Control Officer (ICO) Course

SyntheSys is extremely pleased to announce that 12 NATO personnel have just completed our DLM/ICO Course.  The 3 week intensive course supported by 2 instructors was kindly hosted by the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC) Uedem, Germany.  NATO was represented by personnel from CAOC Uedem and CAOC Torrejon, Spain and the Deployable Air Command and Control Centre (DACCC) based at Poggio Renatico, Italy.  Also, in attendance were personnel from the Netherlands National Data Link Management Cell.

Personnel were instructed on Link 1, 11, 11B, 16, 22, Variable Message Format and Joint Range Extension Application Protocol (JREAP) making it a truly Multi Tactical Data Link (TDL) course.  However, unlike other training programmes, personnel continuously utilised real-life operational software and simulation systems to reinforce theory lessons.  These included: Daronmont Data Link Training Suite (DLTS); Diginext TACTX; Hewlett Packard TDL Network Design Station (TNDS) and Engility Joint Range Extension (JRE) software.  These added benefits allowed personnel to swiftly grasp the complexities that surround TDLs and their operational use.

The course is designed with particular emphasis on practical exercises and the subsequent use of those systems described above.  To progressively challenge students on their understanding of the Multi TDL Planning process, they were tasked to create several complex Multi TDL architectures based upon real-life scenarios.  Furthermore, students then briefed their Multi TDL plan and subsequently validated their architecture through the use of simulation.  This check of understanding provided an invaluable learning experience and enabled them to confirm that their architecture would work in reality.

Those who undertook this training course came from a breadth of national and diverse backgrounds, and ranged in rank from Sergeant to Lieutenant Colonel.  This provided an excellent base for personnel to share their own experience and conversely learn from others.
